Tracking job changes: know when a contact leaves

Your champion moving is the warmest lead you will get. Here is how CapyScout spots it and what it costs.

The person who bought you, renewed you, and argued for you internally eventually moves on, and nobody sends you a note about it. CapyScout re-checks the contacts you have saved and tells you when one of them has gone.

Why it is worth knowing

One departure is two opportunities. The person who already ran your product now has budget somewhere new, which is about the warmest introduction available to you. Meanwhile whoever inherits their role at the old account has never met you, and you would rather reach them before the renewal conversation starts without an advocate in the room. There is a third, quieter benefit: you stop emailing an address that no longer works, which protects your sending reputation.

How CapyScout notices

Where we hold a professional profile link for a contact, we check the employer that profile lists against the company on file. A profile follows the person, so this catches a move even while the old mailbox is still quietly accepting mail, and it usually tells us where they went.

Where there is no profile on file, we fall back to the mailbox itself. A work address that used to deliver and now firmly does not is a strong tell. Only a definite result counts here. A catch-all domain or an inconclusive check never marks someone as departed, because telling you a customer has left when they have not is worse than saying nothing.

Turning it on

Go to Settings and switch on Watch for contacts who leave. It is off until you do, because each recheck spends a credit and we will not spend your balance on a background job you did not ask for. The feature is available on paid plans.

What it costs

A recheck costs 3 credits, the same as verifying a work email. The job is deliberately frugal about which contacts it touches:

  • Only contacts whose address currently looks good are re-checked. Anyone already flagged as departed is never paid for again.
  • Longest-unchecked first, and nobody is re-checked twice inside the recheck interval.
  • A hard cap of 25 rechecks per run, so a large contact list cannot drain a balance in one pass.
  • It stops as soon as your credits run low rather than spending down to zero.

What you will see

Departures appear in your Feed, and in a weekly summary by email and Slack if you have those switched on. The contact page shows a banner reading either Moved to [company] or No longer at this company, with two buttons: one to find their replacement in the same role at the old account, and one to open their profile so you can reconnect. In the contact list they carry a LEFT badge.

Departures also become evidence on the watched account. If you monitor a signal about leadership or staffing change, a contact leaving can now help that signal fire, with the departure cited as the source.

What it does not do

CapyScout does not automatically find the person's new work email or add them as a fresh contact. It tells you they moved and where to, and leaves the decision to spend credits chasing them to you.
